FIRE RISK ASSESSMENTS

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order came into force on 1st October 2006, extending the range of business’s and building across England and Wales that will need to carry out fire risk assessments.

The new legislation simplifies and brings together a wide range of old fire safety regulations, though the requirement for businesses to have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment carried out, by a competent person.
The responsible person must carry out, or appoint a competent person to carry out a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment of the risks of fire to their employees and others who may be affected by their work or business. Those who employ five or more employees must record the assessment and a formal record of any significant findings and remedial measures which have, or may need to be, taken.
